Riggins Named BY NCCSIA
To All-State Volleyball Team

 

Greensboro, NC – Shaw University’s #1 Sharetta Riggins (Middle Hitter / Right Hitter / 5 – 8 / Junior / Kinesiotherapy / Alexander City, AL) adds yet another accolade to her athletic resume. Upon conclusion of the 2007 CIAA Volleyball Championships, Riggins was a hands-down vote to the 2007 CIAA All-Tournament Team. Now, the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association has chosen to shine the spotlight on Riggins as she is honored to the 2007 College Division Volleyball Second Team. More

TO CIAA CHAMPIONSHIP RANKED #2 IN WEST
 

November 2, 2007 Hampton, VA – Congratulations and a “job well done” are due to Head Coach Laura Aker and the Shaw University Volleyball Team as they are currently ranked #2 in the Western Division. In CIAA Rankings, the Lady Bears are 3rd in assists per game (529 total, 8.97 average per game), 2nd in kills per game (666 total, 11.29 per game), 3rd in match won-loss percentage (9 – 3 CIAA, .750 %), and 4th in digs per game (698 total, 11.83 per game). November 2, 2007Hampton, VA – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) has recently released its distinguished list of members voted to the All-CIAA Volleyball Team. The Lady Bears have THREE stellar student-athletes whose performance propelled as All-CIAA team finalists. Shaw NEST LADY FALCONS IN SEASON FINALE

October 30, 2007Raleigh, NC The Shaw University Lady Bears tracked into C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium for their final regular season game against cross-town rival, the Lady Falcons on Saint Augustine’s College. Before a sellout crowd, the Lady Bears subjugated SAC for a 3 – 0 sweep.

              Shaw Volleyball De-Flame Lady Firebirds of UDC

October 27, 2007 - Raleigh, NC - The Shaw University Lady Bears took on the Lady Firebirds on University of the District of Columbia. Shaw was two points shy of completing a three match sweep, but after Shaw won match one, 30 - 22 and match two, 30 - 16, UDC extended the contest to go into "extra innings" as they were successful in match three, winning 30 - 28. Nevertheless, the four matches finished with the Shaw home cooking UDC in the final match 30 - 28 to win 3 - 1.

Shaw VOLLEYBALL LOSES TO LIVINGSTONE  

 

October 25, 2007Raleigh, NC – The CIAA’s second best team in kills (610, average of 11.09 per game), the Shaw University Lady Bears participated in head-to-head competition with the CIAA’s second best team in blocks (149.5, average of 1.99 per game), the Lady Blue Bears of Livingstone College. The Lady Bears’ charge of victory was short circuited after the first match. Livingstone lingered away with the win 3 – 1. More
 

Shaw Downed by Fayetteville in Western Division Dual
 

October 17, 2007 Raleigh, NC – Little did fans know that freshly polished hardwood floors in C.C. Spalding Gymnasium would be converted into tense turf for a western division showdown. The number two seeded Shaw University Lady Bears (9 – 8 Overall, 9 – 2 CIAA, 4 – 1 Division) tightly laced up their NikeŽ athletic footwear as they hosted the undefeated and number one seeded Lady Broncos of Fayetteville State University (15 – 10 Overall, 9 – 0 CIAA, 4 – 0 Division).The serve-for-serve shootout ceased with the Lady Bears being defeated by FSU 3 – 0 for the loss. SHAW Streaks Past JCSU

 Raleigh, NC – The Lady Bears of Shaw University were eager to take the floor against same conference competitors, the Johnson C. Smith Lady Golden Bulls. Shaw’s first home fixture of the season concluded with the Lady Bears beating the Lady Golden Bulls for a 3 – 1 win. Shaw now possesses a record of 9 – 7 Overall, 9 – 2 in the CIAA, and 4 – 1 in the Western Division. More


Lady Bears Bump, Set, and Spike into Shaw History

 Raleigh, NC – Three hundred seconds transpired during the Shaw University Lady Bears’ travel to the athletic facility of their backdoor neighbors, the Lady Falcons of Saint Augustine’s College on Friday, September 28, 2007. It was just 4,800 seconds later that the Lady Bears would claw their name into the prestigious athletic record books of school history. Shaw nested the Lady Falcons 30 – 27, 30 – 17, and 30 – 25 for a 3 – 0 win; which is the first time of Head Coach Laura Aker’s four-year career and since Shaw’s 1995 – 96 Championship season. More

 

Smith and Salter Selected to CIAA Preseason Volleyball Team

 

Hampton, VA - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association has released its 2007 All-CIAA Pre-Season Volleyball Team as selected by the CIAA Volleyball Coaches Association and Sports Information Directors. More
