Shaw Lady Bears Place 4th in CIAA Western Division Meet

Charlotte, NC – (March 6-8, 2009) The Lady Bears of Shaw University bowled in their third CIAA bowling event of the 2008-09 season.  The Western Division schools provided an exciting and challenging opportunity for the team as they placed fourth overall.

On Friday, 3/6 the Bears bowled in the first of team events.  They bowled against St. Augustine’s College and ended with a loss for a score of SU 673 and SAC 704.  The second game went victorious against Livingstone College for a score of SU 589 and LC 553.  The third game against JCSU returned a loss with a score of SU 659 and JCSU 742.  The fourth game against FSU returned a loss for a score of SU 762 and FSU 782.

On Saturday, 3/7 they bowled first against JCSU in a close match but fell short to JCSU 708 and SU 706.  The second game was a win for SU 796 over SAC 689.  The next game was also a win over LC 596 and SU 636.  The Bears lost the last game 670 to FSU 805.  Keia Marshall finished the team events with a high game of 202 for the Bears.

On Sunday, 3/8 the team bowled baker events.  The Bears defeated LC for a score of SU 618 and LC 560.

The Bears will compete in the CIAA Championship Tournament at AMF Durham Lanes in Durham, NC on March 21-23, 2009.  The Tournament will begin at 1:00 p.m.

 

Lady Bears Bowl in Western Division Match

Raleigh, NC – (January 26, 2009) The Lady Bears of Shaw University bowled in their second CIAA bowling event of the 2008-09 season.  The Western Division schools proved to be worthy competitors for the Bears as their win came against Livingstone College in the baker event.

On Friday, January 16th the Bears bowled the first day of team events.  The results are as follows:

SU 663 - LC 684 

SU 639 –FSU 701

SU 735 – SAC 788.

The second day of results ended as follows:

SU 675 - JCSU 677

SU 598 – FSU 724

SU 651 – SAC 707

SU 657 – LC 745.

Keia Marshall finished the team events with a high game of 210 and averaged 177 for the Bears.  The Bears finished the competition with the win on January 18th in the baker event against Livingstone College 639 to 542.

They will play in the CIAA Round Up Tournament at Bowie, MD February 6 – 8, 2009.

Lady Bears Bowl in Second Tournament of the Season

Midlothian, Va. - The Lady Bears of Shaw University bowled in their second outing of the 2008 season against some of the best Division I schools in NCAA sports and came out with one victory over Long Island. 

On Saturday, 12/6, the Lady Bears bowled team events.  The first game against St. Francis resulted in a loss for a score of SU 691 and SF 845.  The second game against Long Island was the only win with a score of SU 765 and LI 640.  The third game against Adelphi returned a loss with a score of SU 672 and Adelphi 954.  The fourth game against St. Peter’s returned a loss with a score SU 667 and SP 811.  The fifth game against Fairleigh Dickinson ended with a loss for a score of SU 680 and FD 999.  The sixth and final game for Saturday against New Jersey City ended with a loss and a score of SU 584 and NJC 993. 

Keia Marshall finished the team events with a high game of 245 and averaged 185 for the Shaw Bears.  Shawntia Barringer finished the team events with a high game of 171 and averaged 152.   Khandi Joseph finished the team events with a high game of 161 and averaged 139.

In the second day of competition the team bowled baker events.  The first baker game was against Elmhurst where the Bears lost with a score of SU 465 and Elmhurst 864.  The second baker game was against North Carolina Central University and the Bears lost with a score of SU 532 and NCCU 689.  The third baker game was against Livingstone College where the Shaw Bears lost with a score of SU 521 and LC 526.   

The Lady Bears will bowl in the CIAA Event II tournament at Livingstone College in Salisbury on January 16 - 18, 2008.

Lady Bears Bowl in First Tournament of the Season
 
Raleigh, NC - (November 9, 2008) The Lady Bears of Shaw University bowled in their first outing of the 2008 season in Fayetteville, NC. 
 
The Bears first game against Livingstone College ended with a loss for a score of SU 599 and LC 685.  The second game against Fayetteville State University also ended in a loss with a score of SU 667 and FSU 835.  The third game against St. Augustine's College returned a loss with a score of SU 650 and SAC 856. 
 
Things turned around in the fourth game as the Lady Bears defeated Johnson C. Smith University with a score of SU 732 against JCSU 620.  Keia Marshal performed in excellent athletic form for the Lady Bears and posted games of 181, 259, 156, 235 and 190 which put her in second place with an individual average of 204.
 
The Lady Bears will bowl in the Jeannette Lee Invitational at St. Paul's College December 5-7, 2008.

October 19 – 21, 2007 Fayetteville, NC – The Shaw University Lady Bears bussed to B&B Bowling Lanes off of Fort Bragg Road to participate in the CIAA Bowling Round-up hosted by Fayetteville State University. The Lady Bears finished third in the western division totaling 3,873 baker match pins for a baker record of 2 – 3. Furthermore, Shaw bowled for sequential strikes and spares as they had 12 match points for a team record of 4 – 6 in the weekend round-up. In the overall event, the Lady Bears had 16 event points to be positioned at in 7th place at the conclusion of the competition. More
