SHAW’S MOORE NAMED
CIAA FEMALE CO-SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Hampton, VA - (MAY 16, 2008) - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association is pleased to announce its 2008 CIAA Female Scholar Athletes of the Year. Each of these honorees will be formally recognized at the CIAA Coach of the Year Luncheon, May 20 at the Durham Marriott at the Civic Center, Durham, NC.

Kim
Moore, Volleyball/Women's Tennis
Shaw University
Ms. Moore is a senior, International Relations major with a near perfect GPA of 3.99.
She made the 2008 All-CIAA and All-Tournament Women's Tennis teams; won the 2008 Chester Davis Sportsmanship Award and Shaw's 2008 Female Athlete of the Year Award.
Academically, Kim was named to the 2007-08 President's List; won 2008 CIAA All-Academic Honors; won the 2008 Shaw Volleyball and Women's Tennis Award of Academic Excellence, the 2008 President's Award of Academic Excellence and the 2007-08 Athletic Academic All-star Award.
The co-recipient of the prestigious award was the eastern division's Celeste Trahan of Elizabeth City State University. Shaw extends congratulations to both student-athletes.
The CIAA
Scholar Athlete of the Year is an honor awarded to the top
athlete in the conference that has excelled both athletically
and academically.

Petersburg, VA – At the end of the
singles championship competitions, it was
annouced that Shaw University's
Women's Tennis team placed third
with a total of 50 points in the 2008 CIAA
Championships. However, CIAA Rookie of the
Year and the Lady Bear's No. 1 seed
Livia Oliveira defeated
Fayettevielle State University's No. 1 seed
Ines Nieves. The freshman sensation defeated
her western division foe in three sets 6 -
7, 6 - 4, 6 - 2. Her prominent perserverance
and phemononal play awarded Oliveira to be
named the 2008 CIAA Championship
Most Valuable Player.

of the Week. Oliveira is the #1 Singles
player and she has a record of 12 – 1
overall and 10 – 0 in the conference. In
doubles (with teammate, senior Juanique
Thompson) and singles, she celebrates an
eight-match winning streak.

team swept the Saint Paul’s College Lady Tigers for consecutive
9 – 0, 9 – 0 triumphs. Shaw’s success was due to the Lady Bears
serving 8 – 0 scores in five out of the nine matches in game one
and in six out of the nine matches in game two. Women’s Tennis
record is now 15 – 7 Overall and 13 – 3 CIAA.

– The Shaw University Women’s Tennis Team snatched their sixth CIAA
conquest after defeating the Lady Panthers of Virginia Union University 9 –
0. The Women’s Tennis Team record is now 8 – 5 Overall and 6 – 2 CIAA.
Shaw served shutouts in three out of the five singles matches. The perfect scores were delivered by freshman Livia Oliveira, senior Juanique Thompson, and junior Kim Moore. Oliveira and Thompson teamed up in match one to win 8 – 0 as sophomore Xania Steele and Moore won the second match 8 – 0. Shaw was awarded the final doubles match as a win by default.

March 25, 2008 –
Bowie, MD
– The Shaw University Women’s Tennis Team took possession of
a road win after their conference clash with the Bowie State
University Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Bears beat Bowie 6 – 3. Shaw
Women’s Tennis record is now 6 – 4 Overall and 4 – 1 CIAA.

SHAW TENNIS COMPETES IN CIAA ROUND-UP
March 14, 16, 2008 – Petersburg, VA – The Shaw University Men’s and Women’s Tennis Team made their way to the campus of Virginia State University to compete in the CIAA Round-up. The Men’s Team swept up two victories with a 9 – 0 win over the Virginia Union University Panthers on March 14th and a 9 – 0 triumph over the Trojans of Virginia State University on March 16th. The Women’s Team tallied one win and one loss as they defeated the Lady Panthers of Virginia Union University 7 – 0 on March 14th, but dropped a loss to the Lady Trojans of Virginia State University, 7 – 2, on March 16th.
