Hampton, VA – The Shaw University Baseball Team
tallied three of five honors distributed by the CIAA. Senior outfielder Averill Bryant (pictured top left) (#22 / 6 – 1 / 200 / R/R / Laurinburg, NC) received double honors as he was named Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week. In the past four games, Bryant had six hits in 11 at bats for 11 RBIs and an average of .456.  

Alum and athletic standout Coach Bobby Sanders (pictured top right) was named Coach of the Week as he led the Bears to capture their 25th victory of the season with sweeps over Elizabeth City State University and Lincoln University. As a result, the Bears have outscored their last two opponents 50 to five.

BASEBALL TAKES TWO FROM LINCOLN

April 5, 2008 Lincoln, PA The Shaw University Baseball team made the best of their road trip after they added two more triumphs to their season win total after their visit with the Lincoln University Lions. The Bears beat the host team 17 - 0 in the first game and followed with a 17 - 2 win in the second game of the doubleheader.

 


BASEBALL SWEEPS EASTERN DIVISION FOE, ECSU


April 2, 2008 Elizabeth City, NC – The Shaw University Baseball Team had a successful road trip after they downed their eastern division foe, the Elizabeth City State University Vikings, for consecutive conference conquests. Shaw won game one 12 – 2 and followed with a 4 – 1 win in game two.

March 22, 2008Raleigh, NC – The Shaw University Bears Baseball Team claimed consecutive conquests against their rivals, the Saint Augustine’s Falcons. Local Tri-cities Top 25 Radio Station WAUG-AM 750 aired game one live for the first time ever. The Bears concluded their radio debut defeating the Falcons, 11 – 4. Shaw’s towering momentum spilled over into game two as they downed St. Augustine’s, 10 – 6.

SHAW MAULS MORRIS COLLEGE

 

March 21, 2008Raleigh, NC – The Shaw University Bears Baseball Team raked in two more triumphs after competition against Morris College. The Bears stung the Hornets for a 12 – 0 shutout victory in game one and followed in game two defeating Morris College, 13 – 2.

Raleigh, NC – The Shaw University Bears Baseball Team and their cross-town rivals, the Saint Augustine’s College Falcons, will take to their baseball battleground at Lions Park tomorrow (Saturday, March 22nd) to be a part of baseball broadcast history. For the first time ever, WAUG-AM 750 will air the baseball cross-town clash.

 

WAUG-AM 750 is noted as one of the tri-cities Top 25 Radio Stations. They will air the first game of the scheduled doubleheader beginning at 12:00 Noon. Also, the game can be heard live online at www.waug750.com. WAUG will be on site with free giveaways at the game.

 

We are asking for the entire Shaw student and community population to come out and show their support.

SHAW SPLITS WITH VSU

March 16, 2008Raleigh, NC – The Shaw University Bears Baseball Team won one and lost one in the Sunday evening showdown against the Virginia State University Trojans. The Bears were defeated in game one, 14 – 8, by VSU, but took down the Trojans in game two, 9 – 7.

March 14, 2008Raleigh, NC The Shaw University Bears left Lyons Park with one win and won loss after scheduled play against the Edward Waters College Tigers. In game one, the Bears were beaten by EWC, 7 - 5. However, Shaw rallied in game two for triumph over the Tigers, 12 - 11.

 

 

 

 

 

 

SHAW STAMPEDES OVER SAINT PAUL’S FOR TWO TRIUMPHS

March 6, 2008Lawrenceville, VA – The Shaw University Bears Baseball Team took care of business in good fashion as they trounced the Tigers of Saint Paul’s College it two games. The Bears beat SPC 27 – 3 in the initial contest and followed with a 21 – 3 triumph over the Tigers in the secluding competition.

Shaw Baseball Prepares for 2007 CIAA Championship

 

Raleigh, NC – The Bears of Shaw University, 2006 CIAA Baseball Champions are getting ready to defend their championship on Thursday, April 19 at 10:00 am on the campus of Virginia State University.  The Bears will enter the tournament as a No. 4 seed and will face No. 1 seed North Carolina Central University.  During the regular season the Bears split with the Eagles 2-2 out of four meetings.  Since the last time they met the Bears have gone on to claim four games in a row headed into the Baseball Championship. Elizabeth City, NC – The Bears finished the season series 1-3 versus the Vikings of Elizabeth City State after a 10-11 and 15-13 split.  Shaw now holds a record of 15-18 overall and 8-6 in conference play while the Vikings are 14-9 overall and 8-4 in conference play. More

Bears dominate Falcons 9-2 and 17-5 in Baseball Action

Avery Bryant went 5-for-5 with 5 RBIs in second game

 

Raleigh, NC – The Bears of Shaw University improve to 11-14 on the season and 7-3 in the conference play while the Falcons of Saint Augustine’s fall to 2-18 overall and 2-4 on the season. Despite having a slow start in the first inning it did not take the Bears long to get this rolling to go on and give the Falcons yet another lose on the season.
