Shaw’s Callwood Named CIAA Player of the Week

Hill Named Coach of the Week

(Raleigh, NC) – The CIAA today named Shaw’s Rodney Callwood its Player of the Week and Head Coach Cleo Hill, Jr. its Coach of the Week based on Shaw’s victories over Virginia State and Saint Paul’s this past week.

Callwood (Sr., Hempstead, NY) had a double-double in Shaw’s 80-62 win over Virginia State (23 points and 11 rebounds). Against Saint Paul’s, Callwood had 28 points to lead the Bears to a 85-67 win.  On the season, Callwood is averaging 24 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.

“Rodney is one of the best players in the conference,” said Hill.  “He can score, rebound, and hold his own in the middle against larger players.  He is our best post player, but usually plays on the perimeter.”

Hill has guided the Bears to a 3-0 start.  This past week, the Bears faced close games at halftime against both Virginia State (a tie) and Saint Paul’s (seven point Shaw lead), but the adjustments made at halftime allowed Shaw to post lopsided victories against each opponent.

The Bears next play at Elizabeth City State at 7:30 p.m. on December 1.
