Shaw’s Quintez Smith Named To Black College All-American Team

(Raleigh, NC) – Shaw All-America cornerback Quintez Smith (CB, Dublin, GA) was today named to the SBN Black College All-American Team.  The team is composed of players from Division I-FCS and Division II HBCUs.  Smith was one of only three Division II players, and the only player from the CIAA, named to the team.

The members of the team will be hononed during the 36th Annual BCAA Awards Weekend February 12-14 in Orlando, FL.

This is another in a long list of post-season honors Smith has earned.  He was named First Team All-America (Division II) by two different organizations: the American Football Coaches Association and Daktronics, Inc.   Smith received the highest number of votes among cornerbacks in the Daktronics poll.

He was named to the First Team of BASN’s HBCU All-America team, which is made up of Division I-FCS as well as Division II players.  In November, he was also named CIAA Defensive Player of the Year.

He was invited to three all-star bowl games:  the East Coast Bowl (where he lead both teams in tackles with 13), the HBCU Bowl and the Cactus Bowl.

During the 2009 season, Smith tied a Division II record by returning four interceptions for touchdowns, and tied for first in D-II with nine interceptions.  He accumulated 302 interception return yards.  He finished the season with 49 tackles and also scored two touchdowns on fumble returns.

Against Elizabeth City State in week one, Smith set a Division II single game record with 194 interception return yards.  He tied the Division II single game record of three interceptions returned for touchdowns.

Smith was named CIAA Defensive Back of the Week three times this season, and was named d2football.com’s National Defensive Player of the Week in week one.

Shaw University finished the season 8-2 (5-2 in the CIAA).
