Shaw Cross Country Wins Tri-Meet

(Raleigh, NC) – The Shaw University cross country teams defeated Elizabeth City State University and track powerhouse Saint Augustine’s College this weekend, at a three-team meet held at Wake Med Soccer Park.

Shaw won with 25 points, followed by Saint Augustine’s with 35 and Elizabeth City State with 60. 

The top Shaw finisher for the men was Willie Stanley, who finished second overall, with a time of 18:01 over the five-kilometer course.  Teammate Lawrence Lewis finished third overall with a time of 18:58, followed by Craig Perkins a second later at 18:59.  Carrington Jones finished in fifth overall with a time of 19:52.

For the Lady Bears, Raychelle Johnson was the top finisher, coming in second overall with a time of 23:29 over the five-kilometer course.  Donchelle Florence finished third overall with a time of 23:39.  Nachez Brown finished fifth overall with a time of 26:12.

The cross country team will compete at the CIAA Championships which will be held at Wake Med Soccer Park on Thursday, October 22 at 10:00 a.m.  The event is free and open to the public.
