Jeremy Ledbetter Named Assistant Basketball Coach at Shaw University
“Jeremy brings a great deal to the program, including a thorough knowledge of the young men who will be our future recruits,” said Cleo Hill, Jr., Head Coach. “He understands what motivates these young men, and how to handle a practice, and how to coach a winner.” “I am very excited to be at Shaw University because I graduated from an HBCU,” said Ledbetter. “I am very familiar with the history and significance of being part of an HBCU.” He continued, “I think this program is about to take off. I know Coach Hill and the type of tireless worker he is, and he will take this program in a winning direction. I’m very happy to be a part of that.” Ledbetter led his AAU team, comprised of 15 and 16 year olds, to the Division II AAU Nationals. Ledbetter played college basketball for one year at North Carolina A&T State University before an injury ended his college basketball career. He graduated from A&T with a degree in mass communications. In high school, Ledbetter played point guard for the Mt. Zion Christian Academy in Durham, NC, which was ranked number one in the country by several publications, and featured NBA All-Star Tracy McGrady. The Shaw University men’s basketball team finished the 2008-09 season 12-16 overall, 8-10 in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) in Hill’s first year as a head coach. The Bears open the 2009-10 campaign by hosting Virginia Union on November 16, 2009, at Shaw University’s C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
